Positive Sportsmanship Reports for April 1-April 22

Throughout the season we encourage our members to submit reports that focus on coaches, players, officials and spectators demonstrating good sportsmanship. Thank you to the following people who demonstrated good sportsmanship and positive coaching techniques learned through PCA these past three weeks.

Officials:

The following officials were reported by coaches as providing exemplary officiating through pre-game coaches meetings, explanation of calls, appropriate penalty administration and maintaining a safe environment for the players. There are 3 teams on every field: home, visiting and officials.

Thank you for enforcing the expectation that everyone honor the game and compete with class!

Craig Bryson and Steve Swale: Boys 14UB Rookie

Taylor Fox and Lindsay McLaggan: Girls 12UB Rookie

Maxine Parkin: Girls 14UB Veteran

Jack Sherman and Freddy Razo: Boys 14UB Veteran

Terry Miles, Don Fagan and Don Aiello: Boys HS Varsity

Eric Sousa: Girls 12UB Veteran

Angela Cherry and Scott Hamilton: Girls HS

Coaches

Jason Willitts, EDH Girls 12UB Head Coach

Coach Willitts was an excellent host to the visiting teams on April 21st. He was positive, welcoming and made sure that the visiting teams had everything they needed to start the games. He even encouraged both teams from his sideline. Our kids were so impressed with his positive attitude and coaching style.

Abby O'Leary, S. Marin Girls 12UB Head Coach

Coach O'Leary did not hesitate to accommodate our struggling team last weekend. She immediately agreed to play down a player so that our team could have a substitute. She was encouraging to both teams and even gave our coaching staff some tips for improvement. Her positive and flexible attitude were appreciated after a long two weeks of tough games with very competitive opponents. She definitely coaches for fun instead of winning.

Dave Helms and Sam Kaplan, Coaching staff for Napa Girls 12UB

The coaches and players from Napa were excellent hosts. They provided our team with a tent, bench and water jug. It was the first hot day of the season and we were not prepared. It is so nice to have a host club follow everything from the protocol sheet when you are the club visiting. To top it off the Napa team agreed to play down one player so that our team could have 2 subs for the first half since 5 of our players had a soccer match. Our girls even reported that they would like to play Napa more often because the players were friendly and good sports about fouls when they knocked into others.

Spectators and Teams

Mendocino Boys HS JV Team and Fans

During a well matched and coach game the San Jose Vipers and Mendocino Thunder traded goals till the final minutes of the game. In the end the Vipers won the game 12-11. The Mendocino team never resorted to poor sportsmanship or aggressive play. Their coaches, players and fans remained positive and encouraging to both teams. At the end of the game the Mendocino fans gave both teams a standing ovation for their effort during the game.
